The Veterans Service Office in Harris County has assisted veterans and their families to obtain their benefits since 1946. As a component of this process, case files are created and may contain death certificates, military discharge papers, divorce and marriage records, birth certificates, correspondence, medical records, and VSO applications. The Houston Genealogical Forum inventoried and created access to 10,708 case files (1978 – 2001) from October 2014 – February 2015.
To obtain access to a case file, look for the veteran’s or spouse’s name in the table below, then contact the Harris County Archives (by email: firstname.lastname@example.org). Personnel will look for the records and contact the requestor via email concerning copies.
