HGF Monthly Meeting – Researching Virginia Colonial Records – Marje Harris
April 7 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Colonial Virginia, the oldest English colony, included parts of today’s Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, and other Mid-Atlantic states. Many records and other documents from the colonial and early statehood periods are available which describe the people who forged through and settled the area. Using these records researchers can discover these settlers and the histories of their lives and development.
Colonial Records of Virginia takes a broad look at the various jurisdictions which have existed over Virginia’s history; it provides a guide to the documents available for the jurisdictions and time periods and includes suggestions on where to find and how to use the information you discover. It takes all of us coming together to figure out what is available and how to get to it.
Marje Harris is a frequent lecturer on genealogy and a former Director of the Clayton Library Center for Genealogical Research, one of the premier genealogical research libraries in the United States.
Poster: If you have the opportunity, please download, print, and post the Apr 2018 meeting poster for our meeting where others interested in genealogy may see it.
