M.D. Anderson Library’s Special Collections holds the rare books, archives, manuscripts, and artifact collections for the University of Houston Libraries on the UH main campus. Department head Christian Kelleher will explore archival, print, and digital resources at the Tier 1 research university library, strategies for discovery, and the ways collections are used for genealogical research and original scholarship. He will focus on areas of strength in library collections, including Houston and Texas history, oil & gas, and military history, as well as digital resources and how UH Libraries uses digitization to share its unique resources with the world.
Christian Kelleher is the head of Special Collections at the University of Houston Libraries. A Certified Archivist, Christian holds Master of Library & Information Science and Master of Arts in Journalism degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a board member of the Center for the Advancement and Study of Early Texas Art (CASETA) and the Houston History Alliance (HHA). He was previously the head of rare books and manuscripts at UT Austin’s Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection, an archivist with History Associates Incorporated outside Washington, DC, and a Peace Corps volunteer in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. He grew up in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
