DNA Interest Group (DIG) – New AncestryDNA Ethnicities, DNA Match Labeling, and more
October 6 @ 1:30 pm - 3:15 pm
New Developments in Genetic Genealogy
Bayland Community Center
A lot is new over the past few months: AncestryDNA has updated ethnicity estimates and added new notifications of trees for Shared Matches, Blaine Bettinger has released DNA Match Labeling for the Chrome web browser, and DNAPainter has new Search, Import, and Chromosome features with a new fee structure. Also after Dana’s presentation at the last DIG meeting, I’m sure many of you have tried to Color Cluster your AncestryDNA matches. In this meeting, we’ll take a first look at these new genetic genealogy developments, review your results using Color Clustering, cover a few items from the Federation of Genealogy Societies (FGS) convention, and answer DIG members questions. I’m particularly interested in your experience with Dana’s approach – did it reveal new relationships among your matches or were you just more confused with what the colors are supposed to tell you? Either way bring your Color Clusters to the meeting as print-outs or on a USB flash drive and share your experience with us.
The DIG meeting is open to all HGF members and others with an interest in genetic genealogy.
A copy of the presentations from the most recent DIG sessions and other DNA references may be found on the HGF DIG web page.
