Houston Genealogical Forum Meeting Minutes
March 5, 2016
Marjorie Lowe, President, called the meeting to order at 10 a.m. She called on Director Kathryn Coughlin to give the Invocation. The salutes to the American and Texas flags were recited by the membership.
Alexander Scott, Nominations Committee Chair, introduced the members of the Nominations Committee: Sharron Newhouse, Gay Dowdy, Mary Nell Ball and Sharon Hanan. He asked members for names of possible members of the HGF board to be presented and elected at the April Meeting. He reminded them to get the possible nominee’s permission first before presenting the name to the committee.
Sharron Newhouse, Treasurer, gave the treasury report. There were no corrections or additions and the report was filed for audit
Rae Bryant reported a total of 155 members to date.
In the absence of Lynne Zalesak, Marjorie Lowe reminded the membership that the minutes are always available on the website before every regular meeting for their perusal. There were no corrections or additions to the minutes and they were filed as presented.
Sharron Newhouse introduced our speaker, Michael Lacopo, who gave an enlightening program about Swiss German Immigrants, their records, and their settlement locations in the U. S. His afternoon program presented his own family DNA research and how successful one can be in using DNA and the paper trail to find one’s “true” family story. A very helpful question and answer period followed the proceedings.
At the conclusion of a very interesting presentation, door prizes were given and the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted: Marjorie J. Lowe, President
