General Meeting Minutes
May 6, 2017

The regular meeting of the Houston Genealogical Forum was called to order by outgoing President Marjorie Lowe. The Invocation was given by Alexander Scott. The salutes to the American and Texas flags followed.
In the absence of Sec. Glenda K. Hayes, Marjorie Lowe called for corrections or additions to the minutes of the previous meeting. There were none so the minutes would be filed as presented.
2nd Vice President Rae Bryant reported that we had 140 paid up members as of this date.
Treasurer Sharron Newhouse reported the year-ending balances of accounts which were reviewed and found to be in good order. They were to be filed for future review.
Installation of the 2017-2018 was conducted by Marjorie Lowe. Installed were President Rebecca Bryant; 1st Vice President Alan Leeds; Corresponding Sec. Marilyn Perry; Historian Mary Frances Townsend; Directors: Monica Anderson and Mary Childers in absentia. It was announced that Jackie Divine had resigned due to health issues and that office was vacant.
Following the installation, Marjorie Lowe was surprised when gifted with a beautiful corsage, proclamation, honorarium for her favorite charity and a life-time membership award. Thanking the crowd, she announced the honorarium would be donated to Camp Journey for Autism in Katy, TX.
The mic was then given over to President Rae Bryant who announced Vernon Gillet volunteered to be parliamentarian for HGF. She then introduced program chair Alan Leeds. After making important announcements for the day, Alan introduced the speaker, Kelvin Meyers, a renowned genealogist from Dallas, TX. Kelvin’s topics were WHOSE ESTATE IS IT ANYWAY?; WHY DID SCARLETT MAKE A DRESS OF HER MOTHER’S DRAPES?; and RESEARCHING YOUR TEXAS ANCESTOR AT HOME OR ON SITE. About sixty-five attendees enjoyed the all day seminar which addressed forensics, taxes and Texas genealogical research resources.
The meeting was adjourned by President Rae Bryant at 2:35 p.m.
