General Meeting Minutes December 3, 2016

The Meeting was called to order by President Marjorie Lowe. Alexander Scott gave the Invocation, with the salutes to the American Flag and Texas Flag following.
The President’s Opening Remarks included reminders to pay dues in Dec. before they go up in Jan; and to register for Marje Harris’ Genealogy Classes which will be held at Clayton Library for the first time. The classes will be on 3 successive Saturdays, beginning on Jan. 14th, 2017, in Clayton’s Guest House. In Feb. the classes will be held on Feb. 11th, 2017, Feb. 18th, and Feb. 25th.
2nd VP Rae Bryant reported that we now have a total of 208 members for the year.
In the absence of Secretary Glenda Hayes, it was reported that the minutes for the last meeting were on the website. Minutes were filed as presented.
Treasurer Sharron Newhouse reported the HGF board had voted to raise the price of the Picnic Lunches for all day seminars to $11.00. She also reported the board voted to give a $50 Honorarium to local speakers to cover cost of travel and preparation for their presentations. She announced that the Audit had been received and everything was in order. She also noted that the auditor made suggestions for a Paypal audit. Following her report, Sharron read a thank you note from Diahan Southard for the nice reception she enjoyed at the behest of Sharron and HGF. Sharron also announced the dates for the TX State Genealogical Society Conference on Oct. 20-22, 2017. Michael Lacopo and J. Mark Lowe will be the Keynote Speakers.
In the absence of Mary Frances Townsend, Marj Lowe thanked the Snacks Volunteer of the month, Bus Booth, and his assistants, Gay Dowdy and Judy Stromstedfor their kitchen service. Members were reminded to volunteer to help for one month and snacks are always appreciated.
There being no further business, Marj Lowe introduced 1st VP Alan Leeds, the Speaker for the day who gave a great presentation on German Research both in the US and Germany. The speech was followed by thoughtful questions by a very receptive audience. For door prizes, Alan and other members, who wished to remain anonymous, donated books based on German research to five very lucky winners. The meeting was adjourned at 11:45 a.m.
